25th June 2010 - end of week 6

Well, school's out and didn't we do well ?!

A mere 7 weeks ago, we were given the keys to our brand new, empty, raised bed area and it's hardly empty anymore.

It's bursting at the seems with radishes, lettuce, potatoes, courgettes, carrots, peas, beans, broccoli, beetroot, mustard, herbs, cabbages, strawberries, onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, leeks, marrows, corn and pumpkin!

Wow! What didn't we plant?

Well according to the Gardening Club - Lots!

They made up a wish list, last night, for next year, which included, apples, peaches, bananas, mushrooms, roses, tulips, brussel sprouts, turnips, cauliflower, trees, hedges, willow, sunflowers and parsnips to name but a few!

Phew, Chelsea Flower Show here we come and once we progress to preparing and cooking all this healthy food, Look Out Gordon Ramsay.

Happy Holidays. xxx

End of Week 5

Another extremely fruitful, glorious week in St Bernard's Garden.

It is literally growing before our eyes, truly blossoming !

We have had so much to do in so little time, we asked P2/1 to help us harvest our Radishes and what a mighty fine job they did too! Don't the Radishes look Ravishing?!

Thank You P2/1.

For anyone who might be interested - The Radish is a plant of the mustard family, probably of Oriental origin, grown for its large, succulent root. Low in calories and high in bulk, radishes have a sharp taste and are usually eaten raw. The shape of the edible portion of the root varies greatly, as does the colour (from white through pink to red, purple, and black). Radishes may weigh only a few grams or, in the case of the Japanese daikon, more than 1 kg ! So now you know.

Our radishes - or a Japanese Daikon (courtesy of Flickr) - it's plain to see ours are better!

A great Big Thank You to everyone for their kind comments on the guest page and an even BIGGER THANK YOU to Grandpa Archie, Grannie Annie and Mrs Jamieson who help us soooo much every week.

Well Done to everyone at St. Bernard's -

'A Beautiful Garden is a Work of Heart'. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

from the gardening club:-)

 Hi everyone,

It is members from the gardening club here, just to let everyone know what a great sucsess it was at our  open night last night.  It was a glorious sunny evening with the smell of fresh herbs filling the air. A great big thanks to Father Neil who very kindly joined our celebration and blessed the garden for us.To all the parents and carers and all the staff who attended thank you so much for your support and donations haha!  We all loved it so much, we sold tomato plants, cress, lavender, rhubarb, herbs, lettuce and sunflowers. We made a whopping £60 for our gardening club funds! Hope you all enjoy our plants that we have grown and they are  very fruitful.

                                                        see you later

                                                           bye xxx :-D
